Volunteer Firefighters Taking Preparations for July 4th

The West Carlisle Fire Department will have volunteer firefighters prepared for the Fourth of July to assist in any firework incidents that could occur over the weekend.

Tim Smith, the Fire Chief of West Carlisle Fire Department, said there have 23 people on staff.

“That’s the average for all the other fire departments in the county. We’ll have a few volunteers hanging around the station to respond with that quick attack apparatus and we’ll meet them there,” Smith said.

Smith said this can be one of the busiest times of the year and people should use common sense when approaching the weekend.

In recent years, the West Carlisle Fire and EMS has placed firefighters around the county but found it more beneficial to just wait at the station.

Smith also said sparklers may seem safe but they can reach temperatures of 700 degrees.

“We want folks to use common sense, that’s the number one prevention for any fireworks related fire. We want them to always follow manufacturers instructions and have water handy in case of fire, Smith said.
