Members of the George S. Berry American Legion Post 575 will be putting flags out at veterans’ graves at the Peaceful Gardens Cemetery off of Woodrow Road on Monday and they can use volunteers to help them out.

“We’ve got a tradition out at the post, of sponsoring different events on Memorial Day, mainly putting the flags on the graves of the deceased veterans,” Bill Youngern, a member of the Legion Post and a U.S. Army veteran, said.

They will be meeting at 6:30 a.m. Monday at the cemetery, and invite anyone who helps out to then come to breakfast with them at the George S. Berry American Legion Post 575.

“The 30th are those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, paid the dues, lots of stories there, that’s the ultimate of what we are as a nation, those that gave it all for all of us,” Youngern said.

There are other events going on to remember those who died in service Monday as well.

The City of Lubbock Cemetery, in conjunction with the Daughters of the American Revolution will be having a service at the city cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday. The public is invited to attend.

Resthaven Memorial Park will also have their annual service at 10 a.m. on Monday, and the public can also attend that.
