Monday night is the first presidential debate of the year between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Ahead of the debate, KAMC News asked a few Lubbock voters if they would be watching the debate.
Brooke Lewis said she does think the debates can be helpful for voters.
“I think they’re very beneficial, very educational, I would probably watch it if I had cable,” Lewis said.
“Just to see people’s personalities come out in debates is helpful,” Lewis added.
“I still don’t plan on watching but I am interested in what will happen,” Mario Walker said.
Walker said at this point, he is still making up his mind on who to vote for in the election.
“Who do I see is actually going to make the country better in the next four years, potentially eight years, who is going to be best for the American people,” Walker said about what he will be looking for in the coming weeks.
Kelsey Markham said she would likely not watch Monday’s debate.
“I really can’t stand the candidates, either one of them, and I feel like it’s the same stuff over and over again and I don’t think it’s going to give me more information than I already have,” Markham said.
Markham said above all, it’s important to get out and vote.
“I think it’s important to vote, I’ll put it that way, because a lot of people, I think, are so, ‘it doesn’t matter’, or apathetic,” Markham said. “I still think it’s important to vote, whether Texas goes red or blue or whatever, it’s important to get your voice heard, and that way you can say later on, ‘Yeah, I voted, yeah, I didn’t win or my choice didn’t win but at least I voted, at least I participated’,” she said.
