Waco Police say a two-year-old child has drowned after wandering from his home while his parents were sleeping and fell into a backyard pool.
Police spokesman Patrick Swanton says officers were called to the 200 block of Tennessee Avenue at 10:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a missing child.
The child’s mother said she woke up shortly before 9:45 a.m. and could not find the child.
After searching for a time, she called 9-1-1 for help.
One Waco officer started searching around the home an found a child’s blanket laying on the diving board of the pool.
He said the water also look like it had been disturbed but the pool water was so cloudy he could not see the bottom.
Officers started using a pool skimmer to search the pool and discovered the child beneath the water.
Two officers immediately started CPR and when ambulance personnel arrived, they continued the effort child the child was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital.
Doctors at Hillcrest pronounced the child dead a short time later.
The investigation into the child’s death is continuing.
