Dozens of Lubbock and South Plains residents laced up their walking shoes and united together Saturday morning to end child poverty.

The local Walk with Compassion was held at Mackenzie Park.

According to a news release, Walk with Compassion is Compassion International’s fundraising walk series created to address the challenges of vulnerable children around the world.

Money raised during these walks helps fund critical needs for children worldwide.

A goal of $25,000 was set for the Lubbock area.

Just under $5,000 had been raised as of midday Saturday.
