Jaquan Ward, 21, was sentenced Thursday morning to 10 years of prison related to the July 2013 shooting death of Christopher Jones who was initially identified by police as Christopher Ayers.

Ward pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated assault.  He will also get credit for time already served in jail.   Ward was arrested in July of 2013.

Shaquille Maurice Cofer of Lubbock pleaded guilty to murder in February and agreed to serve 20 years in prison as part of his plea deal.

Codefendants, Earl Jackson of Clovis, and Treyci K’shon Neece of Clovis were still in jail Friday on murder charges.

Jones had an argument with a group of men at the Skool House club in the 1700 block of East 4th Street.  According to police statements at the time, a nearby officer heard 15 to 20 shots.

Jones was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
