Lubbock Police scheduled a news conference Monday at 3:00 pm to release new information about the death of Adrien Campbell, 24.
According to a police report, an LPD officer witnessed an assault. Police said Campbell was arrested and complained of stomach pain. Instead of going directly to jail, he was taken to University Medical Center where he later died.
Police believed in September that Campbell might have ingested drugs to keep police from knowing he had them. But police said it would require an autopsy to know for sure.
Police said Cambell’s death was officially ruled as a homicide. The specific manner of death was a cardiac arrest that was caused by a combination of physical stress and the use of methamphetamine.
An internal review showed police officers followed proper procedure, according to LPD.
