Wayland Baptist University’s Lubbock campus will hold its annual Lubbock Lights Scholarship Gala at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, at the Overton Hotel. This year’s theme will honor the life and legacy of Jon Randles with all proceeds going to endow the Jon Randles Memorial Scholarship.
An adjunct professor of religion for Wayland, Randles was called to full-time evangelism in 1993, and spent his life traveling and preaching the gospel. Prior to being called into evangelism, Randles served as pastor at several churches, including Indiana Baptist Church and Victory Life Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Randles’ passion was ministering to students, athletes and coaches. In 1997, he began the Paradigm Bible Study at Texas Tech University, which is now on several university campuses throughout the United States. He also served as director of evangelism for the Baptist General Convention of Texas from 2007-2009. Randles died in April 2015 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
The Scholarship Gala is a chance to honor Randles’ memory and celebrate his life, raising money for a scholarship in his name. Tickets are $125 with table sponsorships starting at $1,000. To purchase tickets or inquire about donating to this scholarship, please contact Director of Development Bobby McCloud at 806-438-3876 or bobby.mccloud@wbu.edu.
