Snack Pak 4 Kids is a weekend hunger intervention program that helps break the barriers of hunger so that kids can learn. This nonprofit organization was started in Amarillo in 2010, and found its way to Plainview in 2013.

Every Snack Pak contains 13 shelf stable items that do not require any preparation. Volunteers from the community come together every other Tuesday to Pack the bags. Volunteer, Susan Hurt says that once people in the community heard that local kids are going hungry on the weekends, the support they received was overwhelming.

“Any given Tuesday night, you will see anywhere from 25 to 75 people in the warehouse that come and give their time to pack,” Hurt said.

And the impact this program has had on the school system has not gone unnoticed. Thunderbird Elementary School principal, Amy Meek says this program has been instrumental in benefiting the children’s education.
