The Facebook page for the Snyder Daily news said Thursday morning just after 9:30 a.m., “A law enforcement presence is at Western Texas College looking for a suspect reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest.”
Then, by 10:05 a.m. a law enforcement source said the lockdown for the campus in Snyder was lifted.
Prior to the lifting of the lockdown, the father of a student told TV stations KTAB and KRBC in Abilene that his daughter told him everyone was asked to get inside their dorm rooms.
Thursday afternoon, Snyder Police issued the following statement:
On Thursday September 15th, 2016 at 8:52am Scurry County Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from Western Texas College. The caller report that a suspicious male subject wearing a bullet proof vest had been observed in the library area. The campus was put on lock down and units from Western Texas College Security, the Snyder Police Department, the Scurry County Sheriff Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Ranger responded to the scene. Upon arrival the buildings were searched and information was obtained of a detailed description of the person that had been seen. After further investigation it was determined that the person that had been observed on campus was there for a legitimate business purpose and there was no threat to the people on campus. The campus was released from lock down.
