After a heated Republican Primary debate in Houston Thursday night, the candidates continued to fire at one another on Friday during several rallies in Texas.
Marco Rubio poked fun at Donald Trump at a rally in Dallas for misspelling several words on social media. Rubio pulled out his phone and read a series of Donald Trump’s tweets from earlier in the day, aimed at the Florida Senator.
“How does this guy, not one tweet, but three tweets, spell words so badly?” Rubio said. “And I only reached two conclusions. Number one: that’s how they spell those words at the Wharton School of Business, where he went. Number two: just like Trump Tower, he must have hired a foreign worker to do his own tweets.”
Rubio went on to speculate why Trump needed a full-length mirror during a break in the Thursday evening Debate. “Maybe to make sure his pants weren’t wet,” Rubio said.
Rubio also accused Donald Trump of being a “con artist” and took jabs at Trump’s age.
“We have a con-artist as the front-runner in the Republican Party — a guy who has made a career out of telling people lies so that they come in and buy his product or whatever he does,” Rubio said. “You ever heard of Trump Vodka? You have? Well it isn’t around anymore. Or Trump Mattress? Or Trump Air? Or Trump Ice? Or Trump Water? Those are all businesses that are gone because they were disasters. We cannot allow the conservative movement to be taken over by a con-artist.”
Trump fired back at Rubio during his rally in Fort Worth. The businessman told a crowd of thousands of supporters that Rubio is a “choker” and not fit to be president.
“He’s desperate,” Trump said. “Look, I watched a part of his little act and he’s a desperate guy. I’ve been watching him over the last number… He is not presidential material. That I can tell you. Doesn’t have the demeanor.”
However what really stole the stage in Fort Worth was not Trump, but former presidential candidate Chris Christie who announced he was endorsing Trump for president.
“I’ve been on that stage. I’ve gotten the know all the people on that stage,” Christie said. “And there is no one who is better prepared to provide America with the strong leadership that it needs, both at home and around the world, than Donald Trump. He is, looking at the five people on that stage last night, the clear standout.”
Noticeably absent in the Lone Star State on Friday was U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. Cruz spent the morning in Nashville, but his campaign team said Cruz plans to be back in his home state over the weekend and through Super Tuesday.
