LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department said less than five times a year use a sketch as a way to look for a suspect, but when it is needed, Detective David Schreiber said a victim can might be able to recall more than you think.
“They have a tremendous amount of information in their head,” Schreiber said. “And through cognative interview techniques we can get that information out.”
Adam Schmidt, a psychology professor at Texas Tech University said depending on the type of crime experienced, victims might remember different things.
“For example, an armed robbery, an armed assault, you’re focusing on that weapon in front of you,” Schmidt said. “You’re really going to remember that, it’s going to be extremely salient in your memory where other details might not be as important.”
