Whiteface 6th Graders Win U.S. Army STEM Competition

The U.S. Army announced on Friday that a team from Whiteface won the 6th grade eCybermission for 2015.

Awards were given to the students in Hunt Valley, Maryland.  Among the activities for the teams was a visit to Capitol Hill, including a chance to meet federal lawmakers.

The eCybermission is a web-based STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics competition for 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade teams. Teams propose solutions to community problems and compete for awards.

The Water Warriors from Whiteface developed distillation units to clean hydraulic fracturing wastewater for reuse. Team members are Dwayne Scott, Kaden Moses, Kaleb Ruthardt, and Elizabeth Casarez. Their team advisor is Laura Wilbanks.

Other winning teams came from Los Angeles; Naperville, Illinois; and Jenks, Oklahoma. The event was sponsored by the U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program.

Each member of the four national winning teams received $5,000 in U.S. E.E. Savings Bonds.
