Fire crews say a wildfire that has been burning nearly a week inside Big Bend National Park is now 100 percent contained.
Officials say about 1,792 acres were burned in the wildfire. According to fire crews, a downed power line mixed with gusty, hot winds ignited the flames around 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1.
According to the Big Bend National Park Facebook page, the fire is fully contained at this time and fire resources will began de-mobilization Saturday. No structures were damaged and no personnel have been injured.
Crews say all roads and backcountry campsites are now open. They ask that people not stop in roadways, along burned road edges or go into burned areas due to safety concerns.
The Big Bend National Park Facebook page also sent out a huge “thank you” to all firefighters and personnel who assisted during the incident. Overall, 91 people were involved including the fire crew and administrative personnel in the park.
