WishMakers on Campus hope to raise enough money this year to send two South Plains kids on their dream trips.

You can help them meet that goal by taking a forty five minute walk around Buddy Holly Lake.

“There’s going to be tons of fun things. A kids obstacle course, we have free barbecue sandwiches provided by The Shack in Lubbock. We also have face painting and a DJ, I mean all kinds of things,” said Claire Williams with WishMakers on Campus.

It costs just fifteen dollars to register for the walk and you’ll have a chance to hear from Sophia, a very special 8-year-old who has a very rare disease.

“She’s been diagnosed with an unknown genetic vasculopathy. Which means that her brain is attacking the blood vessels in the brain causing them to narrow and close. And we don’t know why. There is no cure because we don’t know what’s causing it,” said Scott Campa-Peters, Sophia’s dad.

It didn’t take long for Sophia to choose her first wish.

“Her first wish was that she survive brain surgery and live. So the first thing she said after brain surgery was ‘still alive,'” said Campa-Peters.

Now that she’s conquered that difficult surgery, she’s ready to have some fun courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“When that’s all you have to look forward to is the next doctor’s visit life gets kind of gloomy, it gets kind of rough. So Make-A-Wish gives that hope of something to look forward to, that thing to celebrate. That’s what it is for us, this operation that she’s had has been successful so far and we’re celebrating Sophia’s life we’re celebrating the hope and so that’s why we’re going on Saturday for the walk for wishes,” said Campa-Peters.

Her family just has one more request for anyone thinking about joining the walk this Saturday.

“Come and help support such a great foundation that helps so many children and their families break up the monotony of something that’s constantly negative or scary. It’s something good. So come walk and help these kids,” said Karyn Campa-Peters, Sophia’s mom.
