If you haven’t visited a pumpkin patch yet, why not head to Plainview? There are dozens of pumpkins ready to be picked and the biggest one of the bunch is benefiting Make-A-Wish.
“It’s all out of fiberglass,” Adam Soto said. “We have a mold that we cast off of and then we bond it together and of course, we paint it with automotive paint and then I have to sculpt the vines and leaves that go on it.”
Soto owns Advanced Coatings Unlimited in Floydada. With help from other vendors, he created the giant pumpkin and donated it to the Plainview pumpkin patch and corn maze. He described his creation as a “huge piggy bank”.
“Teressa asked me for a pumpkin for her corn maze and pumpkin patch so I told her I’d bring one out here, but I wanted to utilize it for Make-A-Wish,” Soto said.
Teressa King runs the maze and said the huge pumpkin has made a great addition to her attraction, serving as a photo opportunity for many families. She hopes that visitors will consider inserting money into the pumpkin to help the non-profit it was created for.
“The Make-A-Wish part of this was just an extra bonus and benefit, you know because everything that we’re doing out here is for the kids and we wanted to offer this family entertainment and we’ve had a great response so far,” King explained. “(We) encourage everyone to come on out.”
The corn maze and pumpkin patch sits at the future home of Royal Splash Texas in Plainview, 4000 N. Interstate 27.
The corn maze is $10. The haunted maze is $15. Children three and under are free.
