With the help of student volunteers from Texas Tech, a handful of kids who’ve had their wishes granted by Make-A-Wish created several pieces of artwork that will be auctioned off at Make-A-Wish’s annual fundraising gala, Waltzing for Wishes. The event, scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd, will feature both live and silent auctions. According to Make-A-Wish, the artwork will be included in both auctions.

“I was delighted to get involved,” Pauline Mills said. “It brings people into the gallery which benefits me and I get to help and that gives me the warm and fuzzies.”

Mills owns Glassy Alley. The art gallery, located in downtown Lubbock, donated the space and materials to Make-A-Wish in order to make the artwork, which included two custom tables.

“It’s just in my blood to volunteer,” Mills added.

Members of the Tech Volunteer Service Organization or TVSO also lent a hand to the cause. Connor Disbrow, who helped to create the organization, said the group doesn’t just focus its efforts on one non-profit, instead it tries to help as many groups as possible.

“I’ve always thought Make-A-Wish was an awesome, awesome thing to be a part of and I think it’s awesome getting to do this (you know) because we help out and this stuff’s going to be auctioned off at the gala, which (I mean) is going (to) eventually go to make dreams come true for some kids who really need them,” Disbrow said.
