Summer is the busiest time of year for the Make-A-Wish Foundation because it’s when the majority of wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. In the Lubbock region, more than 20 wishes were granted this fiscal year. Isaiah’s wish was one of them.

“He’s never really been on a big family trip before so his siblings were all like, ‘let’s go to LEGOLAND!’ It’s turned out great and he’s super excited (that) he’s going to LEGOLAND,” Anna Debinski said.

Debinski was one of Isaiah’s wish granters. Once she submitted Isaiah’s request to Make-A-Wish, Debinski waited for it to be approved. The non-profit then agreed to make the 5-year-old’s wish come true and in August, Isaiah learned he’d soon be headed to California for the trip of a lifetime during a wish reveal party held at a local ice cream shop.

“He told us in the beginning, his favorite food was ice cream,” Debinski said. “He loved ice cream so we thought what a better way to have a party than at an ice cream place so Holly Hops (Ice Cream Shoppe)* was so generous to let us use this facility and let us have this party for him.”

Isaiah opened presents, including a “countdown calendar” to lead him up to his vacation. He also ate cupcakes and ice cream, which was provided by Holly Hops.

“Just to see the joy on their faces when they realize they’re going somewhere,” Debinski added. “They’ve had such a hard time in their life going through their illness that this is the least I can do to be able to work with them.”
