A Lubbock teenager who is waiting for his wish to be granted by Make-A-Wish was given another opportunity, thanks to a store inside the South Plains Mall. Oakley, known for its sporty sunglasses, offered Luis Mandujano a once in a lifetime shopping spree.
Mandujano is fighting cancer but once he was inside the store, he was able to forget about the disease. Oakley allowed the 18-year-old to shop without the distraction of other customers. The retailer opened the store to him after it had closed to the public for the day.
“I found some sunglasses that barely came out and my backpack, my sweatpants, my socks and everything,” he said. Mandujano also took home a sweatshirt, polo shirt and a hat.
“We like the opportunity to help out the community anytime we have the opportunity to help out. It’s a cool experience to be able to help him (Mandujano) out,” Jered Bowers said.
Bowers is an optician for Oakley. He said the retailer provided Mandujano with the gear and apparel at no cost to him.
“It’s a privilege. It’s awesome to be able to have that kind of impact, especially this time of the year,” he said.
