Waltzing for Wishes has come and gone but the money raised at this year’s event should last all year long. In March, hundreds of people bought tickets to the gala, held at the Overton Hotel. There was eating, drinking, dancing and most importantly fundraising.
“There’s no better thing than to give to kids,” Lee Williams said.
Williams is a member of the advisory board for Make-A-Wish. He, along with fellow board member Marinda Heinrich, attended the event.
“It’s definitely an emotional roller coaster the whole night. It’s a fun evening, but at the same time, you hear stories of these kids and it can be sad at times,” Williams said.
This year’s gala marked the ninth year for the event. It raised a record $350,000. The average wish costs about $8,000. The money raised at Waltzing for Wishes will allow Make-A-Wish to grant 43 children in our region their wishes.
“If you can just bring joy to them, even if it’s just for a week, seeing the smiles on their faces when they know they’re going to have a wish come true,” Heinrich added.
