It’s not always easy to get a college student out of bed before noon, especially on a weekend. But we found an exception: Swishes for Wishes.

“They’re usually pretty excited to do it,” Junior Elizabeth Thompson said.

Chi Omega, a sorority at Texas Tech, hosted Swishes for Wishes in April. It’s a three-on-three basketball tournament where each sorority member puts together a team of at least three men to play. This year’s tournament took place at the Texas Tech University Student Recreation Center.

“It’s just a way to give back to them (Make-A-Wish) and give them (wish kids) a neat opportunity to go do something that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do,” Sophomore Andrea Britten added.

The tournament raised thousands for the non-profit this year. In years past, Thompson said $12,000 has been collected for Make-A-Wish.

“It’s just for the greater good and it’s a really neat opportunity,” Britten said.
