Last month, Wishmakers on Campus hosted its second annual Walk for Wishes. The 5K run/walk raised funds to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Organizers said the event, which was held at the Buddy Holly Rec Center, registered about 200 participants.
“I think it’s a really well received event. Everyone loves it and even though you have the competitive people, they all know the main reason we’re there,” Lauren Shanks said.
Shanks, who was the President of Wishmakers on Campus, helped coordinate the event. The family-friendly walk included live music, games and even a wish reveal.
“She had no idea it was going to happen and her friends were there so it was just a big reveal and it was super fun and I’m super excited to see that through as well,” Shanks explained.
Wishmakers on Campus raised $9,000 for Make-A-Wish. According to the non-profit, $9,000 is the average cost to grant one child his or her wish.
“It was a great turnout and we’re happy to do it again, so we’ll see them next year,” added Shanks.
