At about 9:30 p.m. Thursday officers were called to the Family Dollar on 42nd Street in Odessa about a disturbance.

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to a woman, Joni Lu Gist, 45, who was intoxicated, according to a written statement.  Gist was arrested her on a charge of public intoxication.

When officers were detaining Gist she reportedly kicked them in the chest and the knee and also spit on them, according to the release.

Police said, “Gist then spit in the face of Corporal Michael Stewart. Corporal Stewart also felt spit on his forehead and hair. When Corporal Paul Hurley attempted to assist Corporal Stewart, Gist then spit on Corporal Hurley.”

She was also charged with harassment of a public servant, a third-degree-felony and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.
