The woman who publicly accused State Senator Charles Perry of stalking her has been arrested for a felony charge of retaliation.
Cynthia Lynn Ortiz, 46, was arrested early Friday morning according to online records for the Lubbock County Detention Center.
An arrest warrant was made public on Tuesday.
In 2015, Ortiz unsuccessfully requested a protective order against Perry in the state of Oklahoma. She wrote on Twitter of her allegations that Perry was stalking her, saying in part it was like living with a gun to her head every day.
Perry denied the allegations and a judge in Oklahoma denied the request for a protective order. Ortiz indicated she was living in Oklahoma at the time.
Ortiz was quoted as writing a number of things on Twitter according to a warrant for her arrest.
One quote mentioned in the warrant was from January 12; it said, “Sometimes because of his constant intrusion & harassment I wish I could beat the s**t out of Perry. Of course I’ll never actually do that.”
The warrant also made reference to a quote on January 14 which said, “I’ve had a zillion ppl offer 2 take him out and end my misery. Never would I approve or condone it being done that way.”
An officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated Ortiz’ claims that Perry stalked her and hacked her online accounts. The officer claimed in the warrant that a fellow officer conducted a forensic review of her cell phone and there was no evidence to back her claims against Perry.
On Tuesday, Perry indicated that he would not comment.
In the online jail roster, Ortiz was listed as a homeless person in Lubbock. She was held on a $50,000 bond. The charge against her was listed a third degree felony.
