An Amarillo woman is dead and several people were detained after a fight broke out in Northeast Amarillo.

It happened early Monday afternoon on NE 24th Ave. and Manhattan, right next to Travis Middle School.

Officials say a witness claims they saw someone run over Kristen King, 27.

Police say King was found underneath a car when they arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene. King’s autopsy is ordered for Tuesday in Lubbock.

Officials say the driver and others were taken to the police station for questioning.

Leading up to the fatal moment a fight reportedly broke out at a nearby home.

Police say the driver and the woman were both involved.

The Special Crimes Unit says 28-year-old Ralph Owens was booked into the Potter County Jail for murder and aggravated assault.
