Woman To Serve Jail Time For Role in Deadly Lubbock County Crash

Staci Kirk, 45, was sentenced to time in jail by a Lubbock County judge on Thursday for a manslaughter charge.

She pleaded guilty to manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. A charge of failure to stop and render aid was to be dismissed.

The sentence was handed down for her involvement in a deadly crash in December 2012.

Police said Dirk Zieher died while riding his motor scooter down Highway 84.

Forensic evidence found on Kirk’s vehicle, as well as surveillance video from a business nearby linked Kirk to Zieher’s death.

Zieher’s sister read her victim impact statement through tears as Kirk cried as well.

“I hope that my brother’s death was not a complete loss and something positive comes out of this,” said Almut Zieher.

“…enough damage has been done and punishment is not the answer,” she added.

She said her brother “struggled with mental illness, most of the time he lived with [their] parents.”

“I offer the opportunity to have a healing dialogue with me (to Kirk),” she said.

Kirk was handed a 10 year sentence for manslaughter which was suspended to 10 years probation, plus 180 days in the Lubbock County Jail.

When Kirk completes her jail sentence, she will complete her probation time in Travis County, which is where she now resides.
