Xcel Energy today announced discounts on energy efficient LED light bulbs through partnerships with retailers in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains regions. The program hopes to encourage residents to choose energy efficient LED bulbs to lower their energy bills and save money over time.
The program offers savings of up to $3 per bulb at participating Walmart, Sam’s Club, Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware stores. More than 30 models of bulbs will be discounted in 2017, including major brands such as GE, Philips, Cree, Ledvance and Greenlite.
“By partnering with major retailers, we can offer customers discounted bulbs in the wide variety of colors and light level choices they’ve come to expect in energy efficient lighting for their home,” said Sherryl Volkert, Xcel Energy program manager. “LEDs cost less to operate, which means lower bills and money saved over the life of each bulb.”
The U.S. Department of Energy reports that LEDs use up to 80 percent less energy, than traditional bulbs, and last up to 15 years.
