In the vote to leave the European Union, young British citizens are now angry — so much that there has been a movement among the young to ban Britons over the age of 50 from their right to vote.
The majority of Brits 50 and older voted to leave the EU, whereas Britons 50 and younger mostly voted to stay in the EU.
The younger generation feels people over 50 will not have to live with the decision to leave the EU. So why should elders be allowed to vote if they do not live with the results? That is the question that is leading the movement to ban the elderly from voting.
Many news outlets such as GQ, The Independent, and VICE News have had story headlines relating to how the elders have “screwed over” the future for the younger generations.
The National Review goes as far to say, “Let us follow this logic to its natural conclusion. People with a terminal illness, or a chronic condition that will, on average, shorten their lives, should be unable to vote. Their stake in the future is smaller than that of people who are healthy.”
