She may not have won Nick Viall’s heart on The Bachelor, but Raven Gates was looking her best at After the Final Rose…all thanks to a talented makeup artist from the South Plains.
“It all started when I was a little girl, and what little girl doesn’t like makeup, right?” Makeup Artist Helena Roy said.
19-year-old Roy said her mom and Raven’s mom have been best friends since kindergarten.
“I didn’t know until she told me, ‘I’m going to be on The Bachelor, I just want to know if you’d fly out to L.A. and do my makeup, it’d be great for you,’ because I’m trying to get started and it’s my passion…it’s what I love doing.”
Her boss Stephanie Bodeaker said even she didn’t know about the trip, because Roy couldn’t give away the secret that Raven was a finalist.
“She had to keep it a secret, so we didn’t know why she was going to California for spring break,” Bodeaker said, “So after the live show was over, we got the message that she had done Raven’s makeup and we were so, so proud.”
Roy said she’s surprised by the fast notoriety.
“People from all over the world sending love and support all through Instagram…I didn’t expect all the followers, I’m like, ‘You know this is kind of new, little West Texas girl,’ so it’s all been amazing.”
For this young girl, it’s been the memory of a lifetime with her friend.
“I always remembered when I was younger and we would sit in [Raven’s] bathroom, and she would do my makeup…so it was such a special experience to be able to do her makeup,” Roy said.
