Playing in the SEC is hard. Becoming an All-Conference player is even harder.
However, Tennessee’s Derek Barnett wasn’t just named to the All-Conference team once, he earned the honor three times.
Although Barnett tends to get a sluggish start to the season, he definitely more than makes up for it as the year progresses.
While with the Vols, Barnett led the SEC in 2014 with 20.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks on the year. As a junior, he was named first-team All-SEC and first-team All-American, racking up 18 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He ranked sixth in the FBS in 2016.
With strong, quick hands and perfectly-timed rejections, Barnett is able to get around the tackle and head straight for the quarterback.
