During the Green Bay Packers’ final press conference before Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, Coach Mike McCarthy officially ruled wide receiver Jordy Nelson out for the contest.
McCarthy on Jordy Nelson: We’re going to declare him out for the game Sunday. #GBvsDAL— Green Bay Packers (@packers) January 13, 2017
“We’re going to declare him out for the game Sunday,” McCarthy said. “We’ll re-evaluate Monday. He’s going through a workout now. He’s feeling better every day. You tilt opportunities the other way. We anticipated potentially not having (Jordy Nelson) this week. We’ll be prepared.”
Nelson sustained a rib injury in Green Bay’s 38-31 win over the New York Giants.
Nelson led the team in receptions with 97. He also recorded 1,257 receiving yards and 14 touchdown catches in the regular season. This will be the first time this season the Packers will play without their No. 1 receiver.
Coach McCarthy says even though he won’t play, Nelson will travel to Arlington to support his teammates.
Backup WR Geronimo Allison will play in Nelson’s place.
McCarthy: I have a lot of confidence in Geronimo (Allison). The progression he’s made throughout the season. #GBvsDAL— Green Bay Packers (@packers) January 13, 2017
Green Bay will go head-to-head with Dallas on Sunday at 3:40 p.m., at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
