A Navy sailor from Milford had a special honor on Wednesday.
Allon C. Louisgene served as a pallbearer during former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral.
He enrolled in the Navy in Nov. 2017 after graduating from Platt Technical High School.
While at boot camp in Chicago, a supervisor suggested that Louisgene apply for the casket program. He was then accepted into the program and stationed in Washington D.C.

“He said he was actually stepping into history today,” Louisgene’s mother, Marie, said.
Marie works at a V.A. hospital and said she was trying to watch her son on TV.
“He knows the Navy is the path he wants to go down…He’s very proud of his position…” Marie added.
And he wasn’t the only one who was proud, of course. His family was beaming with pride.
“We are all very proud of him. He is the first in our family to go into the military,” Marie explained.
Along with being a pallbearer for Bush on Wednesday, Louisgene served in the same role for the late Senator John McCain.

He will also be a pallbearer for other government officials and for other burials held at Arlington National Cemetery.
Louisgene is serving in the program for a two-year period and has already been in it for a year.
