There’s few places to eat in Crosbyton, but one of the popular food stops is Charley’s Place. Located right off Main Street, the mom and shop shop offers a variety of foods, but is best known for their burgers.

“This is pretty much the hot spot. Everybody stops in here, usually everyday, and catches a bite,” says Gene Chappell, a longtime customer and Crosbyton native.

Chappell is not the only one who comes in frequently and has good feedback.

“My wife and I both love coming to Charley’s for lunch and sometimes supper as well. She likes the fries more than anything, but I like the fact that when I come here, it’s fresh made food,” says Vance Davis, who is another loyal customer.

The restaurant emphasizes their fresh made food, which is what keeps people coming back.

“Burgers are our number one. We do all types of burgers but also chicken strips, chicken fried steak, and steak fingers,” says Charley Jordan, the owner of Charley’s Place.  “None of our products are frozen. We hand bread them all ourselves and we cut our own french fries. We pretty much do everything from scratch,” he adds.

Jordan has been in the food industry for a long time. It all started with his parents who had a drive-in restaurant in Crosbyton when he was a kid.

“We were able to bring back the quality of what they instilled in me as a kid growing up. I can share it with the younger generations, but also the older ones that knew my parents in the restaurant business,” Jordan says.

Jordan and his wife originally opened Charley’s Place in Levelland before closing it and moving to Crosbyton. They built the Crosbyton location from the ground up and have been open now for 6 years.

“We love it! We like the business, we like the people, and that’s the reason we’ve been gone for 21 years in Levelland and decided to move home to kind of semi-retire and do what we want to do,” Jordan says. “My wife and I grew up here. All these people that come in I’ve known for years. Some of us went to school together. It’s just a perfect blend of it all…the public relations and the business aspect. It’s just all good.”

Charley’s also caters, and they even do wedding and birthday cakes.

“We do just a little bit of everything. We do all the catering for schools over here for sports banquets, proms, and that kind of stuff,” Jordan says.

He says they can handle real small crowds, but they’re always prepared for the big ones too.

“Almost everyday there’s a group of us farmers that meet here and eat lunch,” says Chappell. “He doesn’t have anything that’s not good.”

“If we get here at 12:30, it’s usually very packed and you have to wait, but it’s worth waiting,” says Davis. “I’m really thankful to have good folks like Charley and good businesses here like that that keep small communities going. They’re a mainstay of this community,” he adds.
