The new Wolfforth water treatment plant is set to open in the spring, after years of planning and building.
“The most important thing for people to understand in Wolfforth, and almost everywhere, is that right now the money we’ve spent and the projects we’re working on are for water quality. We’re improving and filtering the water, and we’re going to be doing those things,” Wolfforth City Manager Darrell Newsom said.
Newsom said the work on the building is still moving along. The new system will be a electro-dialysis reversal system.
“Really, the biggest impact the consumer is going to have is to the fluoride levels to their water,” Newsom said. “You know, West Texans have fluoride all over. We grew up, they’ve all grown up on well water. A lot of us have. That fluoride affects you in a couple different ways, some good some bad. So we’re going to get it to an acceptable level that will be more beneficial to the Wolfforth resident,”
The plan is for the plant to start operating in the spring, but before residents will get any of the water, there will be a series of tests done to make sure everything is working as it should.
“There will be a period of adjustment while we go through a cleaner product. That will actually change some things that go on with the way our water is delivered. You know, there for a while, the cleaner water may wash out the pipelines and cause some other issues,” Newsom said. “So we’ll, like I said, there will be a period of adjustment till we actually get to just life as usual while it’s up and running.”
