For the first time in four games #6 Texas Tech faced an unranked team but UTSA didn’t go down quietly. The Red Raiders survived a late charge to win 7-6.
The victory improved Tech to 13-2 on the season.
The scarlet and black jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the first three innings, Michael Davis opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the opening frame.
Tanner Gardner was 4-4 with 2 RBI while first baseman Hunter Hargrove was 3-4 with 2 runs scored.
On the mound Davis Martin went six innings giving up two earned runs in a winning effort, the bullpen ran into trouble with Jacob Patterson allowing four ER’s in only a third of an inning pitched.
John McMillon came on in the ninth to earn his second save of the season and close out the 7-6 victory.
Game two starts tomorrow at 2 pm over at Dan Law Field.
