The Red Raider faithful are just three days away from the Texas Tech football team making their fourth annual trip down to Midland for an open scrimmage.

All eyes will be on the Texas Tech defense.

There is no way around it – Tech’s defense under first year defensive coordinator David Gibbs was awful.

The Raiders ranked next to last nationally in run defense and total defense. 125th in scoring defense. Tech in fact surrendered at least 44 points at least eight times in 13 games.

However, reasons for hope?

Finally, stability at defensive coordinator.

Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs returns for his second season at Texas Tech, the first DC at Tech to do so since 2007.

Another positive, Tech returns seven starters on defense, and it all starts in the trenches where they will build around rising sophomore Breiden Fehoko and a pair of transfers in Kolin Hill from Notre Dame and Ondre Pipkins from Michigan.
