(LUBBOCK) – Lubbock Sports is excited to welcome the Associated Supply Company, Inc. (ASCO) All Star Classic on Saturday, June 11 at various locations. This year, the competition includes men’s and women’s basketball, as well as football. The ASCO All Star Classic games are expected to bring about 180 participants to Lubbock, including coaches and players, as well as 5,000 fans.

On Saturday, June 11, basketball games will begin at noon with the all-star women’s game at the Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University. The men’s basketball game will follow. The football game will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Lowrey Field at PlainsCapital Park. All proceeds will benefit young men who have sustained permanent injuries from playing football. The event has raised more than $230,000 over the past 11 years.

“This event is a chance to give back to Joe Beane from Odessa Permian and Tanner Cook from Idalou who were both injured playing football,” Johnny Taylor, committee member, said. “Attendees will have the opportunity to see the best of West Texas graduates play the game of football one more time this season.”

Quint Anthony from Midland Greenwood High School will coach the red girls basketball team, and Rob Schmucker from AA State Champion Panhandle High School will coach the blue girls basketball team. Andy Copley from two-time AA State Champion Canadian High School will coach the red boys basketball team, and Tim Thomas from Odessa Permian High School will coach the blue boys basketball team. For the football game, the red team will be coached by Jared Sanderson from Levelland High School, and the blue team will be coached by Ken Plunk from Amarillo Tascosa High School.

A banquet for all players and their families will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 10 at Lubbock High School. Players will have the opportunity to hear from Tanner Cook and Joe Bean, the players for whom the proceeds are being raised. Also, a player from each football team will receive a scholarship from the Reagor Dykes Auto Group, and one male basketball player and one female basketball player will receive a scholarship from Fuddruckers.

Lubbock Sports is anticipating more than $1.2 million in economic impact to the local economy.

The all-star games are open to the public, and tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. The same ticket will grant access to all three games on Saturday. Banquet tickets are $20 and may be purchased online at ascoallstarclassic.com. For more information about the event, contact Johnny Taylor at dpmoo@windstream.net or visit ascoallstarclassic.com.
