Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff Matchups Set for Texas Tech

The Texas Tech men’s basketball team will meet Boston College to begin the championship rounds of the 2017 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament announced Wednesday by tournament organizers.

The four-team Naismith championship round bracket is scheduled for Nov. 18 and No. 19 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The Red Raiders also will face either LaSalle from the Atlantic 10 Conference or Northwestern from the Big 10 Conference.

“Our program is looking forward to competing in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament and in front of Texas Tech fans in the Northeast,” Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard said. “The event has several talented teams and will help us prepare for our Big 12 schedule.”

Texas Tech will look to even up its all-time series with Boston College. All three previous meetings have come on a neutral court. The Red Raiders won an 84-78 decision during the 1981 Gator Bowl Classic in Jacksonville, Florida before the Eagles captured victories in the opening rounds of the 1985 and 2007 NCAA Tournaments.

Texas Tech will play host South Alabama (Nov. 10) and Maine (Nov. 14) as part of the campus rounds at the United Supermarkets Arena. Game times and television networks for all matchups will be announced at a later date.
