Thomas Calvillo, 18 years old on Wednesday, is breaking chains in life and moving chains on the field.
He has been through more than the average teenager, and he’s achieved a lot in his 18 years.
He is student body president, a football player, top 10 for the mock trial club and is part of the school choir.
“When I started my life out I lived with my mom for like the first three years of my life. Then she was finally like I don’t want anything to do with him so then my dad came in the picture,” Calvillo said.
He added his father taught him how to be a good person and he taught his father how to be a good dad.
For Monterey Head Coach Wayne Hutchinson, Calvillo is the leader his team needs.
“He just brings a lot to the table, anything we ask him to do- Tommy is going to do it,” Hutchinson said.
Calvillo credits his father for his bubbly personality and driven mentality.
“You know grew up as a single parent and I watched him struggle for the longest time, he didn’t graduate from college. Football is fun but education is most important, that’s what will get you far in life. I give it all I got, but grades are number one. I am a student athlete, student first then an athlete,” Calvillo said.
