Texas Tech jumper Charles Brown was named Track & Field Athlete of the Week by the Big 12 conference this afternoon, owed to his standout performance at Texas Relays.

“What a great jump for Charles at Texas Relays! Head Coach Wes Kittley said. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the transition from indoors to outdoors and how he is figuring it out on the runways. We’ve seen the big jumps, but now they’re starting to happen”

Brown hit a long jump mark of 8.14m/26-8.50 ranking him No. 3 in the world. This jump by Brown also leads the nation by over half a foot.

Brown’s mark serves not only as a second-place outdoor record for Texas Tech, but as his lifetime-best jump.

This is Brown’s second outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor from the conference.

The sophomore from Wichita Falls, Texas, is a five-time USTFCCCA All-American, two-time Big 12 long jump champion, USATF Junior Triple Jump Champion and a two-time Men’s Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year.

Brown and the rest of the Red Raiders will split travel this weekend to head to Canyon, Texas, and Tempe, Arizona for the WT Classic & Multi as well as the Sun Angel Classic on April 7-8.
