“On any given night, it can go either my way, or Zach’s way, or anybody else’s on the team.”
Those the words of Texas Tech senior forward Anthony Livingston when referring to Chris Beard’s motion offense.
It’s a phrase you’ll hear offense around this Red Raider Basketball team. And it could not be more fitting.
“You know I think the motion offense in itself, it works wonders for any given player on any given day,” Livingston said.
Through the opening month of the season the Red Raiders have seen at least four scorers reach double digits in five of their seven games.
They’ve score 90 points or more, three times, and they are holding opponents to just under 58 points per contest.
The only blemish on their record?
A two-point loss to Auburn.
However, that hiccup just a minor speed bump in a young season that is just getting started.
“I feel like we’re on track, and I feel like we are still getting better,” Tech junior forward Zach Smith said. “So I think a lot of good coming our way, I feel like.”
“We worked hard this summer, and preseason we worked hard,” Livingston said. “You know we’re going into every single game with a winning mentality.”
To this point the Red Raider basketball team is checking all of the boxes. Their 6-1 start, the same start that they had a season ago, and we all know how that turned out, with an appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Their 79-point scoring average? Just over five points better than they were averaging at this same point a year ago.
And maybe the most impressive part, they are doing it shorthanded.
“We’ve obviously had some adversity. I don’t like playing without Norense or Ross,” Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard said. “Those are two of our main players, but we have a next man up mentality, so there’s no excuses. Our team continues to be a work in progress. But I like where we are at, at this point.”
