Just two days into practice at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, former Texas Tech football players Le’Raven Clark and DeAndre Washington have already turned heads.
According to Optimum Scouting’s 2016 senior bowl weigh-in information, Clark checked into the week with an 85 7/8″ wingspan, the largest in the field.
The next closest? Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman at 84 1/4″.
During workouts on Tuesday, Clark impressed scouts after dismantling Oakman – a projected first round pick – during one-on-one drills.
The performance even prompted Charlie Bernstein of footballinsiders.com to tweet:
“Texas Tech OT Le’Raven Clark is doing a really nice job. Just stoned Shawn Oakman twice in a row. #SeniorBowl”
As early as last week, Lance Zierlein, NFL media draft analyst, projected Clark as a first-round draft pick, selected No. 26 overall by the Seattle Seahawks.
Meanwhile, Washington who was added to the Senior Bowl late in the process, has grabbed attention as well.
Throughout drills on Tuesday, the Missouri City, TX native showed off some of his moves during practice. Washington even showed off his blocking skills in pass protection, a skill that he developed following several years in a pass first system.
Washington’s blocking even caught the eye of Emory Hunt, NFL analyst at Football Gameplan, prompting him to tweet:
“Texas Tech RB DeAndre Washington is OWNING blitz pick up #SeniorBowl”
The two former Red Raiders will be practicing throughout the week before playing in the Senior Bowl on Saturday, January 30 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. CT for a contest scheduled to be televised live on the NFL Network.
