LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore infielder Michael Davis was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday after leading all conference players with 11 RBI last week, including seven in the Red Raiders’ 15-5 victory over No. 16 Oklahoma State on Sunday.

Davis is the third Red Raider to be recognized as the conference’s top offensive player this season as he joins Stephen Smith (Feb. 22), Tanner Gardner (March 21) and Eric Gutierrez (April 4). This is the first time Tech has won the award in back-to-back weeks since 2011 when Stephen Hagen and Jamodrick McGruder earned the accolade on March 21 and 28.

Davis capped a successful week at the plate with seven RBI on Sunday which marked the most for a Red Raider since Chris Richburg also had seven on May 1, 2007, at Dallas Baptist. It was the most RBI for a Red Raider in a Big 12 contest since Gera Alvarez drove in seven runs against Baylor on May 19, 2002.

Davis cleared the bases twice against the Cowboys, drilling a three-run double in the third inning before returning to the plate with the bases loaded in the sixth, only to unload another double to deep centerfield. His seven RBI were the most for a Big 12 player in a conference game this season.

The Lubbock native began the series with the game-winning RBI in Friday’s 5-1 victory. His RBI single was the second of two hits in the win for Davis, who wrapped the Oklahoma State series with a .500 average (6-for-12) to go along with a team-leading nine RBI.

In addition, Davis also knocked in a pair of runs in Tech’s 8-4 victory at No. 5 Florida State on Wednesday as he finished 2-for-5 overall. He recorded the game-winning RBI in three of Tech’s four victories during the week.

The Red Raiders concluded their road trip with a 4-1 record which included a three-game sweep of the 16th-ranked Cowboys. The sweep marked Tech’s first against a ranked opponent since the 2002 season and its first ever in a road series at a top-25 Big 12 team. The Red Raiders are now 11-1 in Big 12 play, marking their best start to league action in school history.

Tech returns to the friendly confines of Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park on Tuesday evening as the Red Raiders host Sam Houston State in a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. The midweek series concludes with a 2 p.m. start on Wednesday.
