The Lubbock Christian University volleyball team is ranked second in the preseason poll for the Heartland Conference.

A big event from last season may prove to be huge motivation for the team as they prepare for the 2016-2017 season.

“It ended kind of strange. We were more concerned with one of our players being in the hospital than volleyball, so it just really taught us- i mean they were already great at it- but just magnified out important it is to unite together and be there for one another, ”  says Coach Jennifer Lawrence.

This has united this group.  And although Mallory Maddox is no longer part of the team, she is their biggest fan and a motivational force.

“She would always so let’s go boys like joking around with us because we’re all girls but we look like boys when we play and so she was so encouraging and so that’s just a thing to remind us that she was getting out of a hospital bed barely walking around and she was like I can do this, ” says Channing Castleberry.

Maddox has been motivating her team to set their goals high and win the conference title they’ve been wanting.

“Yeah, we are definitely playing for her…she’s a huge encourage. She’s already eaten with us for team dinners and stuff so she’s been around so it’s been really cool to just like to still be around her and play for her, ” explains Mallory Powell.
