Former Red Raider golfer Clement Sordet will participate in the 145th Open Championship this weekend, which will take place at Royal Troon Golf Club, in Ayrshire, Scotland.
Sordet, who was sparked by a third-round 63 at the Thailand Golf Championship in December to earn qualification for the Open Championship, is the second Red Raider in as many years to make the field at a major golf championship. He joins Matias Dominguez, who participated in the 2015 Masters.
Sordet has two career Challenge Tour wins, most recently at the Turkish Airlines Challenge, where he posted four sub-70 rounds on his way to the title. Despite only being a professional for a year, he has already cracked the top 200 of the Official World Golf Rankings (197).
Sordet will tee off at 5:36 a.m. CT on Thursday morning, and the Golf Channel will be providing live coverage during the entirety of his round. The Open Championship will take place tomorrow through Sunday, with only some of the field making it to Saturday and Sunday’s rounds after Friday’s cut.
As a Red Raider, Sordet became one of America’s top collegiate golfers as he won five collegiate titles, which is tops in school history. Sordet was named a second team All-American in 2015, after completing a season with a school-record stroke average of 70.9.
