On Tuesday, Dec. 27, Lynn became the first former Red Raider player to take an NFL head coaching job as the Bills named him interim head coach. Lynn replaces 2nd year head coach Rex Ryan who was fired by the team on the same day.
On Saturday, as the offensive coordinator, Lynn guided the Bills to 31 points and 589 total yards without turning the ball over in an overtime loss to playoff-bound Miami. Lynn was a Red Raider running back from 1988-91, and was an All-SWC selection in 1990. In his NFL career, he was a member of the back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos in 1997 & 1998.
Lynn has been an NFL assistant since 2000, but has been an NFL running backs coach since 2003, with stops in Jacksonville, Dallas, Cleveland, NY Jets and Buffalo.
After taking over his first offensive coordinating duties in September, Lynn has lead the Buffalo Bills to lead the league in rushing, averaging just over 170 rushing yards per game, and they are seventh in points scored, averaging just under 26 points per contest.
According to reports, Lynn will have a legitimate shot to earn the head coaching job in Buffalo permanently.
