The 45-37 loss to Texas not only burned given that it came to an in-state foe, but also because it continued to diminish the Red Raiders chances of reaching six wins and bowl eligibility.

However, you have to give Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury credit for one thing.

Despite a 4-5 overall record, and 2-4 mark in Big 12 play, he’s sticking to his guns, and continuing to push that this is still his best team since he’s been in Lubbock.

“The results aren’t what we want as far as wins and losses, but I think we’ve gotten better, and I think we’ve been right there. We just haven’t finished,” Kingsbury said.

When asked what is keeping the losses from translating to wins, he pointed to turnovers.

“I think just really and truly, turnover margin. I think we needed to get some more throughout those first nine games, and we haven’t. I think we’ve won one game where we won the turnover margin, and that was Stephen F. Austin. So when you consistently don’t win there, it’s hard to win in this league,” Kingsbury said.

However, the troubling thought is that if they don’t win two games out of their remaining three, they will be facing a long and lonely off-season without a bowl game to look forward to for the second time in Kingsbury’s tenure.

Next up, Texas Tech travels to Stillwater, Ok, a place they haven’t won since Kingsbury was still leading the Red Raiders out onto the field as their quarterback.
