Well it just wouldn’t feel like Texas Tech football was back if it wasn’t for a little trash talk on day one.
“I was just doing my job on the post, and saw the ball coming my way – caught it,” senior safety Keenon Ward said.
“Did you take it to the house?,” a reporter asked.
“Always,” Ward replied.
“Defense did have a good day, but I think they don’t want to talk about the other ones where we went over the top on ’em,” junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes said.
Or if arguably the game’s most stylish coach, didn’t come up with a new look.”
“When did you decide to go with the hat?,” a reporter asked Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
“Yeah, just lots of sun damage. Needed to keep the youthful exuberance going,” Kingsbury said.
Also passing the eye test when walking onto the field, was the size and speed that didn’t seem to be walking this campus a year ago.
“They are bigger kids coming out of high school, and we have to really, kind of work with that. They have natural size,” senior linebacker Malik Jenkins said.
“They have a lot of natural athletes over there, but I think more, is that they are smarter players, have better awareness,” Mahomes said.
Plus, a togetherness that this group says hasn’t existed until now. Leading one true freshman, Houston Miller, to even bunk in the locker room for the duration of camp.
“Did he? He Probably did. That’s who he is. He is 180% all of the time,” Kingsbury joked with the media.”
The Red Raiders were the final Big 12 team to hit the field for fall camp, and it didn’t come without any hiccups. Weather delays pushed back their practice by at least an hour, probably having head coach Kliff Kingsbury asking himself: When exactly was the indoor football training facility scheduled to be finished?
“Yeah, yeah – looking forward to that indoor for sure,” Kingsbury said.
I think I can speak for Red Raider Nation by saying, we are too coach.
