For Chip Darden being named the new head football coach for the Lubbock Cooper Pirates football team is a dream come true.  Darden has grown up around coaches and teachers so it should come as no surprise his desire to pursue a job as big as the one at Lubbock Cooper.  When longtime coach Max Kattwinkel stepped down to become the full time Athletics Director for the district, it created just te right opportunity for Darden.

“We found out as a coaching staff that Coach Katt was going to step down right before Christmas Break and so once I figured that out that was the first thing talking to my wife and figuring out that was something that we would be interested in and wanted to. I think pretty quick after Coach Katt made that announcement, my family we decided that let’s put our name in that hat and see what happens and go from there.”

Darden has been with the district for ten years and served as the Offensive Coordinator for Kattwinkel the last four seasons.
