After leading the Lubbock High Westerners football team for seven years, Jason Strunk is stepping down.  Coach Strunk came to Lubbock High in 2011 looking to make some changes in the overall culture and approach of the Westerners.  In his second season, Strunk was able to get the Lubbock High to a place they hadn’t been since 1975, the post season.  While this was the only post season appearance for Strunk at Lubbock High, there was much more at play than just wins and losses.  “I shifted my gears from not rebuilding in wins and losses, but to rebuild this place to have them feeling good about the uniform they wear.   I figured if we focused on that, you know we’d win.  Well it turned out we didn’t win as much as we wanted.  But we’ve won in a lot of different areas.  It turned out we were doing it for football, but it was much more needed in the life aspect.”

LISD will begin the search to replace Strunk next week.  Where Coach Strunk heads from here?  Rest assured it will be on a sideline somewhere in the Lone Star State.
